Derita Mahasiswa China Habiskan Ratusan Juta untuk Kembali Belajar akibat Pandemi COVID-19

Perlu diketahui bersama bahwa terdapat sekitar 260.000 mahasiswa China yang terdata secara resmi di Australia. Untuk hal ini, pemerintah Australia mendapatkan dana setiap tahunnya dari sektor Pendidikan sekitar $12 Miliar (khusus dari Tiongkok) atau sekitar 109 Triliun per-tahunnya.
Jadi, secara ekonomis bisa di kalkulasikan bahwa apabila 260.000 mahasiswa China tidak kembali ke Australia karena kebijakan pemerintah, maka pemerintah Australia akan kehilangan $12 Miliar.
Berbeda dengan Karen Ji, mahasiswa lain menilai lebih obyektif dengan menganggap bahwa Australia berhak menentukan apa yang dirasa aman untuk negaranya. Oleh karena itu, sangat sulit untuk menilai apakah kebijakan itu baik atau tidak, tapi yang jelas semua itu akan berdampak kepada seluruh komponen masyarakat.
Justru, beberapa universitas memberikan subsidi atau hibah sekitar $7500 atau 68 juta rupiah seperti di University of Melbourne, University of Adelaide dan Western Sydney University.
Lebih dari 25.000 mahasiswa asal Tiongkok telah kembali ke Australia sejak 02 Februari 2020 lalu setelah menjalani karantina.
Otoritas Australia memuji siswa asal China yang mengambil langkah untuk pergi ke negara ketiga dalam waktu 14 hari. Pergi ke negara ketiga dan mengkarantina diri sendiri merupakan sebuah kelaziman sebelum kembali belajar di Australia.
Hingga saat ini, sebanyak 128 kasus pendemi COVID-19 telah menyebar di Australia tertanggal 13 Maret 2020. Kasus pertama yang mengejutkan justru dating dari seorang bayi yang menderita COVID-19 setelah kembali dari Iran.
Selanjutnya dua orang asal Australia dilaporkan adalah seorang wanita berusia 95 tahun di panti jompo NSW, serta di Australia Barat berusia 78 tahun berasal dari kapal pesiar Diamond Princess.
Sebagai penutup, marilah kita berdo’a agar pademi COVID-19 ini segera berlalu. Derita dunia pendidikan akibat Pandemi COVID-19 ini tidaklah sedikit. Proses belajar mengajar harus terus berjalan, jangan sampai terhenti.
